What to read next

Book recommendations

There are several online resources to help you find your next read. In addition to online bookshops that tell you what others purchased, here's some ways to discover similar books to the ones you like.

  • LibraryThing - You can sign up to LibraryThing yourself, or click on book titles in our catalogue to see similar books also held by the Library as recommended by LibraryThing users.
  • Goodreads and Shelfari are similar to LibraryThing in that they are based on a community of readers sharing their reviews and creating links between books.
  • For a simple type in the author or title experience, try Booklamp, What Should I Read Next or The Book Seer. These sites either use reader reviews or algorythms based on book scanning for data.
  • Whichbook is different, as it gives you suggestions based on the factors you're looking for in a book. Note, though, that the Borrow link on helps if you're in Britain.
Try them and discover which works best for you. You might be suprised.

Round 24 round up

And the winners are...

At The Age, the best "expert tipper" was Martin Boulton with 138 wins. Over at the Herald Sun, Cameron Smith topped the tipping with 140 wins. But in the 2011 Blogalogue tipping comp, 140 got you no better than 6th place.

Community member Bottle is hereby declared the winner, with a total score of 145 wins. Librarian kiwi sok took second prize, a whisker behind on 144.

Bottle and kiwi sok will be receiving their prizes, but it takes a community to make a ladder, so thank you all. Also thanks to our guest contributors, the footy bears.

So you again in AFL season 2012 (probably).
