2010 in review

This year we....

Here's a top 12 of new things we shared with our customers this year:
  1. Launched our new website
  2. Launched Picture Frankston, our local history photo group on Flickr
  3. Launched Art for Loan, your cheap entry into take-home paintings
  4. Got a Wii at Frankston and began regular Wii tournaments
  5. Held our first borrower selection night at Robinsons Bookshop
  6. Gave customers access to IELTS Online
  7. Launched searching across our online databases
  8. Began email near-due reminders
  9. Facilitated the opportunity to follow our blogs on Facebook
  10. Launched the dual Frankston High School/Frankston City Libraries membership card
  11. Made pedometers for loan
  12. Launched Playaway talking books

Along the way we held lots of events, said goodbye to our Library Manager Beck Henshall (and hello to Kim Kearsey as Acting Library Manager) and saw guest footy bears write weekly round-ups for our AFL tipping competition.

Only The Shadow knows what's coming up for 2011.

Novermber 2010 Carrum Downs feedback

If you can't beat them

Following the release of November's Frankston customer feedback, we thought we might beat the pirates and publish the equivalent Carrum Downs feedback ourselves.

We are currently assessing calls to get Medieval with the leakers.

Picture Frankston's councillors

The old boys club

There was a time when Frankston's councillors were all men. They were at least of middle age and, judging by the photos, mostly older.

None were women.

This is quite apparent browsing through our Picture Fankston selection of photos depicting councillors.

No women Mayors or even 24 year old male Mayors back then. Our first woman Mayor, by the way, was Diane Fuller, mid-1980s.

Summer Reading Club

Join us in a scar-a-thon this summer!
Our summer read-a-thon for kids aged 5 to 16 has begun.
Come to a library, get a reading record, read-up a scary storm
(there's been a few of those this summer already) and
collect prizes along the way.

You don't have to read creepy books with zombies, ghouls,
witches, aliens or vampires, but it helps.

See our Summer Reading Club page for more info.

The best of 2010

'Tis the season for making lists

It's December, so people are making lists. Not just Christmas present lists and New Years resolutions, but lists which highlight the "best of" the year soon passing.

In the spirit of the moment, here's a select list of 2010 best book lists:

There are a few titles that make it to more than one list, but the diversity just goes to prove that it's all in the eye of the beholder.

If you've got a fave 2010 read, please feel free to share it via the comments link.
