LibraryLink Victoria

Place your own inter library loans

LibraryLink Victoria (LLV) is Victoria's catalogue of library catalogues. With one search, you can find a title in any public library in the state. It also works with the State Library of Victoria and university libraries.

This comes in really handy when looking for books that we don't have. If the book was last published more than 2 years ago, you can place an inter library loan request through LLV. You sign in with your Frankston City Libraries membership card number and PIN, place the request and select a pick up location.

Requests from public libraries cost $2.00 and $13.20 from other libraries.

For more information on inter library loans, please see our website page on the subject.

Pub corner

Drinking in the past

Hotels are a popular theme in the Picture Frankston local history photo collection.
.
Generations of Frankstonians have partied, eaten and drowned their sorrows at our pub corner. Daveys, The Pier and the Grand Hotel have a heritage that dates back to the start of Frankston. Publicans, including Mark Young and William Davey, left their mark not only in terms of hotels, but street names too. Mark Young even became the Shire President.

All of the pubs have been re-built over the years and a few have undergone name changes. The long gone Prince of Wales Hotel (pictured) was where Daveys is now. Ironically, the Davey family owned the Bay View Hotel across the road, where the Grand Hotel is.

You can see these and other images of Frankston City's past in our Picture Frankston Flickr Group.

Parking at Frankston this Saturday

Christmas Festival of Lights changes

If you're driving to Frankston Library this Saturday, you may have to find different places to park. Due to Frankston's Christmas Festival of Lights, Young Street between Davey and Playne streets and the Arts Centre car park are closed this Saturday.

Free parking will still be available in Playne Street and along Young Street north of the roundabout. The car parks at the Frankston Railway Station and the Bayside Entertainment Complex also close by.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

  • Monday to Friday - 8:30 am to 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, 20 November - 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Thursday, 25 November - 8:30 am to 8:00 pm

nanowrimo

It's nanowrimo month!

Literary agents and publishers cringe in December. That's because November is novel writing month.

The nanowrimo website encourages aspiring novelists to write a 50,000-word novel from scratch during November. Unfortunately, some people don't understand that a quickly written manuscript is a first draft and will be, in the words of the nanowrimo website itself, "laughably awful yet lengthy prose". Salon.com has an article expressing grief about the whole event.

So, there it is; if you have the novel writing bug, start now with nanowrimo and write in a supportive environment, but understand that this is just the first of many drafts.
