Fare thee well

Beck has left the building

Beck Henshall, Manager, Frankston City Libraries has bid us farewell to take up a new position elsewhere. We asked her to write her own goodbye post for the Blogalogue:

In my time here, we have have created a library experience that is engaging, exciting, welcoming, friendly and fun (yes you can talk in the library and sing now too!). With a host of events, guest speakers, live music and movie nights, our libraries have opened their doors to many new faces who hadn't visited a library in years. And their response has been overwhelming "Wow!" So many programs for kids of all ages, Wii games to play and you can search your own family history for free!

But what's been truly innovative is that you don't need to visit us to visit us! As our Blogalogue followers know, you can connect with the library through our new website, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr...and the list goes on. Thank you to all of you who connect with us online!

Round 21 under review

File under rumour
By our confident Lions correspondent, Briso

Reports that I might not be here next year, just because there is the usual annual review of the Blogalogue Football Department, are incorrect. Likewise, suggestions that I will be replaced in a succession plan by club legend Big Ears are unfounded.

I have been personally informed by the Blogalogue's Chairman Harps that I have the full support of the Board and that whatever issues the review highlights, that my contract will be honored. Apparently, unlike Ruff Ruff the Bulldogs' bear (who has been noticeably invisible throughout the 2010 campaign), I have the numbers to represent my club in my own right.

The tipsters with the best numbers in round 21 were handbag hag and muddy 60, both with 7 wins.

Now in more languages

Translate the Blogalogue!

If you're English is not so good, or you're learning another language, the Blogalogue has just become more helpful.

At the top of the right hand sidebar we've added Google's translation widget. So now you can have the Blogalogue in any of over 50 languages.

Other than English, I like it in Icelandic, so that it reads like a Sigur Ros lyrics sheet.

Footy tipping round 18 up (or something like that)

Son of a bear
By our red, white and black correspondent, Nicky

7 goals to our Saint Nick Riewoldt! Look out, he's back, cherry ripe and finals fit.

Just like Muddy60, who tipped the perfect round this week. Well done.

With just 2 rounds left before the finals, we have half the Blogalogue tipsters with 100 correct tips or over, with plenty more closing in on the ton. What a bunch. They must be picking the Saints a fair bit (and a couple of other clubs I won't mention).

Footy tipping round 19 roundup

In the name of pride
By our proud Lions supporter, Briso

As if it was a remake of Dumb and Dumber, the match between the Lions and the Eagles was being promoted as the Battle for the Woodenspoon. As if!

We're third from last now.

Above the much touted resurgent Tigers.

So, a shout out to Blogalogue tipsters Debbie, Rav and SandyW, the only ones who dared to dream.

Art for Loan

Insert your picture here
Frankston City Libraries is embarking on a new pilot program - Art for Loan.

Many progressive Libraries around the world have introduced an Art for Loan borrowing system. Whilst they all operate slightly differently, the concept is the same. Public libraries are now working in partnership with local artists to assist in showcasing their work.

How it works
Libraries and artists are working together to enable pieces of art to be borrowed as you would a book. This, as shown around the world, is assisting emerging artists’ work to be widely distributed and showcased and we at Frankston City Libraries would like to follow suit.

Our program will consist of the following guidelines:
  • We will accept artwork up to the value of $500. Initially artwork will consist of paintings and photography, with the hope of introducing sculpture at a later stage.

  • Artwork will be listed on the library catalogue and reserved as per our current reservation system.

  • Customers borrow the pieces (limit of 2 per card) for a period of eight (8) weeks with an option to reloan for four (4) weeks.

  • Customers have a designated Art for Loan membership and will be required to pay an annual deposit to use the service.

  • Insurance of the artwork is the responsibility of the artist.

  • The artwork remains the property of the artist.

  • When reserved by a customer the artist is contacted to deliver the piece to the library for collection.

  • All purchases of artwork will be negotiated between artist and interested parties.

  • Artwork will be promoted via our webpage, library catalogue and other associated media.

To join this exciting program please contact Mandy via email.

Footy tipping round 18 round up

The other teams they don't fear
By our loyal correspondent, Donna

Our boys who play this grand old game are giant killers. They don't fear the Saints. We smash them!

It's a pity only 3 Blogalogue tipsters picked us to win. Well done to Google (who also won the round), agent zero and Rav.
