Footy tipping round 5 roundup

Oops
By our confused correspondent, Briso The Lion
.
Got back from a Brisvegas nightclub the other afternoon to find Brisbane had lost. To Melbourne! I thought I’d heard that Melbourne weren’t allowed to win or something. Something about a storm in a salary cap. Garry Lyon was on about it on Thursday night.

Whatever. It hurts.

Anyway, Brisbane’s loss must have been an upset in a round of upsets. I bet that quite a few of the Blogaloguer tipsters got upset. My friend agent zero tells me that the best tipper (louise) picked 6, but mostly people only got 4 or 5. agent zero picked just 3 and Brad only 1. Maybe he tipped the Dees. bluesgal bagged 5 to stay on top of the ladder.

See ya @ a night match

When writers bag

Caro says:
Who does Nabokov think he is?

Michelle Kerns of the Examiner has collected 50 of the best author vs. author put downs and it makes for wonderful reading.
.
When you get people who can really write slagging off other literary greats, they do so with savage venom and wit. There are no sacred cows here: Mark Twain's dismissal of Jane Austen is severe, but Twain in turn cops a serving from William Faulkner.

The comments, such as that quoted above from Caro, are also worth a look.

Footy tipping round 4 update

8 is enough
By our correspondent, Tiger Teddy
.
On footytips.com.au, 26,763 tipsters picked all 8 winners from the weekend. 4 people on this week's Blogalogue's ladder got all 8 winners right, so well done to muddy60, pud, harps and Vicki. bluesgal only got 6, but is on top.
.
Which means that lots of people picked the Dees over the Tiges.
.
Sniff.

Study room installation

The Ponzi Scene
A White Street Project commentary on fraudulent capitalism.

Frayed at the edges, turbulent and rickety, artist Ry Hskings has created an installation that mimics the roller coaster ride of a Ponzi Scheme about to collapse.

Stand away and it looks solid and vital, but up close the work begs the question, Is it finished? The paint is rough and the edges are soft. Which is the point.

Round 3 tipping roundup

Ouch!
By our heavily bandaged correspondent, Nicky

Hi, I’m Nicky and I’m a Saints fan.

When Big Saint Nick went down with his hammy in the second quarter, I felt his pain. Such sacrifice for the side! I could barely watch the third quarter, afraid that the Collingwood would expose us as a one-man team, but we stopped their goal kicking and won.

This week’s 9th big footy winner was bluesgal. She tells me her 8 correct tips weren’t luck, but came about through a careful study of the form. Which means that she meant to tip Melbourne, thought Freeo would beat the Cats (every Sainter was secretly hoping for that) and tipped against her own Bluesboys. Although this was a star performance, Debbie stayed at the top of the ladder on percentage.

Cheers, Nicky

Study room action

Something is growing...
in the Playne Street study room at Frankston.

It should be fully grown and birthed on Sunday, so the room should be available again from Monday.

It reminds me of a roller-coaster.

Round 2 footy tipping

Yeah, we nearly won!
By guest commentator, Dees Bear

What a match! When the final siren blew, I discovered that I had the mixed emotions of pride and loss. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I also discovered that I had been holding my breath for the last 30 seconds.

As several callers to radio football shows observed after the game, it’s not that Melbourne lost to Collingwood. We lost to the umpires. Although, Pies fans were also saying that they nearly lost to the umpies, not to Melbourne.

Oh well, it’s only footy and Jimmy Stynes’ predicament puts it all in perspective.
.
By the way, the Library's own Debbie currently leads the Blogalogue footy tipping ladder.
