Round 9 complete

All over the place
No one got the 8 this week, but several competitors in the Blogalogue footy tipping pastime did earn 7. After that, the numbers were all over the place, with new entrant heynonny following last week's 100% effort with a measly 2 correct tips. So it goes.

Going the extra character

Spine labels: now with more letters!
New library stock will now have four letter spine labels instead of the usual three. This applies across the collections.
.
We aren't retrospectively re-labelling older items (that's far too much work), but as new titles arrive you'll be able to more readily identify the Harcourts from the Harrod-Eagles, the Morissettes from the Morrisseys and so on.

Those with four letters will file after those with three letters (eg, HAR, HARD, HARR).

Round 7 roundup

Worth waiting for?
With the Monday night football experiment, it was one of those long 4 day rounds. It was worth waiting for if you're a Sainter.
.
While Refgurl maintained her position on top of the ladder, what I found most encouraging was that our leggy last, Rav, tipped the most winners for round 7 with 6 wins.

Is the novel dead?

Or are they just tweets now?
For years, people have been claiming the novel as obsolete as rock paintings. The replacements have been many over the last century, challenging printed words with ever more sensually arousing media . More than mere technologies, each medium brings with it new experiences and behavior, currently characterised by the snack culture of Googling and Tweeting.

Have our attention spans got too short to cope with a novel? Are we too time poor to sit and read? Are we evolving past books? Or are short romance paperbacks, online ebooks and graphic novels the future? Here's your chance to express your views on the future of the novel by commenting on this post and via this month's Blogalogue poll (in the blue sidebar).

Round 6 round up

Surprisingly good
Here I was thinking that it was a horror round and it turns out that results of 5 and 6 were the common effort. Not so bad then.

By the way, muddy60, Mollyfud, MandyH, tango2, librarytart, Otis B Driftwood and bluesgal are our non-Frankston Library Service competitors, which means that members of the Library team are filling the coveted top 4 positions. It's still close in the eight, though, as only 4 wins separate first to eighth.
