Review what you borrow
Now you can let other library members know all the things you loved, hated, found intriguing, challenging, illuminating or disgusting (but read every word of). Review music, DVDs, books and talking books - whatever you borrow!

Everything you loan from the Library has an entry on the catalogue. Each entry has a link that says Add your review. Identify yourself with membership number and PIN, provide a star rating out of ten and write up a brief response to the title. All reviews are moderated (published or rejected) with an eye to anything offensive before publication.

You can see published reviews in the catalogue entries and via the [+] New Resources - Ratings and Reviews links in the catalogue's left sidebar.

Selction guidelines

A choice policy
How does a library choose what goes on the shelves for members to borrow? How do librarians know what to buy and what to wrinkle their noses at? These are important questions.

It isn't all up to personal choice. Selection is one a library's most critical and far reaching decisions, so it needs to be supported with documentation and statements of intent. What a library buys goes to the heart of its values, of the customer's freedom to read, our democratic rights of access to information, diversity of view, opinion and taste.

With this in mind, we now have available on the Library's website an important document, the Collection Development Guidelines pdf of the Frankston Library Service. It may not be page turning bedtime reading, but it does help to explain why everything you borrow and choose not to borrow is there.

Round 5 excuses

Let me run a theory past you
If a sporting competition is difficult to pick, then that's good. It's unpredictable because the competition is close.

Therefore, on the field, AFL had a really healthy weekend.

That, or some of the teams are just flaky.

Penguin's digital stories

We Tell Stories
Or Penguin authors do, anyway. We Tell Stories is an experiment by Penguin in online fiction using the likes of blogs, Google Maps and Twitter.

It's kind of fun.

Round 4 round up

A tipster's nightmare?
Special comments by Sir Lord Harper

What a magnificent round of Australian Rules Football this weekend. It was a privilege to witness fifteen teams, each lead by a captain of industry, former playing legend or broadcaster, compete in the spirit of the game. It was a shame that Fremantle played like a group of unionized dock workers.

Of course, I was disappointed for Jeffrey on Saturday, but on Sunday experienced a grand old time cavorting in the members watching the fall of the once mighty Richmond Football Club. The faithful always tip for their side, and my side won.
.
Who said that you had to know nothing about football to pick a winner this weekend?

March 09 customer feedback

Oops
There's plenty of criticism, ranging from returns to the Library's lighting during Earth Hour, in the March customer feedback.

At least some people enjoy the new coffee cart.

Round 3 finally finsished!

It was a long round of AFL,
especially for those of us with middling results.
Others, though, were on the edge of their seats with anticipation,
as 4 of our competitors tipped 7 winners.
Well done, I say - jealously.

Did you know that it's still not to late to join
the Blogalogue's AFL tipping competition?

Round 2 update

Consistency
There was a fairly constant 5 wins across the competitors this week and our message board is alight with questions about the consistency of the Hawks. Can they loose three in a row? If so, will they win once tippers start jumping ship?

Easter competition

Of bunnies and chocolates
To help celebrate Easter, we have two baskets of culturally relevant goodies to give away, one each for Frankston and Carrum Downs. One of them is seen here in the accompanying scarily obscure photograph.

To enter, please neatly pen your name and telephone number on an entry form and slip it into the Easter competition box.

The prizes are drawn on Wednesday, 8 April. We'll call you and your dentist if you win!

Under construction

Bang, whir - bbbrrrttthhh!
Please note that while Frankston's new Multipurpose Room
is being built over the next couple of weeks,
it may sound a little like a dentist's waiting room
(while someone's getting a big root canal job).
.
We apologize for these most unlibrary like sounds.
