Why are you trying to put library staff out of a job?
ReplyDeleteI know that this is a concern shared by many Library customers, however the Library has no intention of reducing staffing due to self service loans.
ReplyDeleteSelf-serve loans enables customers to have the option of doing it themselves or seeking staff assistance. Members of the Library's customer service team are now stepping out from behind the counter to directly assist those borrowers who need it from in front of the desk. This is a more flexible approach for all.
Charlie is gone but not forgotten!
ReplyDeleteThat's Charlie The Second in the photo above.
ReplyDeleteCharlie the second, a chip off the old block!
ReplyDeleteOnly much better. Charlie Next Gen.
ReplyDeleteAs a customer told me yesterday: "Too esay."
Sorry, she actually said: Too easy.
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot. One suggestion: perhaps make the reserved items publically accessible so that a greater number of transactions can be fully 'self-serve'. I'm aware of some libraries (City of Melbourne comes to mind) that allow patrons to gather both their reserved and regular off-the-shelf items together before lining up for the auto checkout. It allows a maximum of flexibility for those simpler transactions where there are no queries nor fines to pay. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your positive feedback on self serve and suggestion.
ReplyDeleteWe have trialed self-serve reserve pick ups at Carrum Downs but found some difficulties with it, so while we're not going down that path for the moment it is part of our long term planning.
What I'd love to have a self-serve reserve vending machine!
