Science Resource Center

Science Resource Center
We've got lots of new online resources, so since it's National Science Week, this month our feature looks at the Science Resource Centre.

The Science Resource Centre answers all those tricky questions, like Why is the sky blue (that's down to Rayleigh scattering) or What the heck is Brownian motion ( you'll have to read that one yourself).

Unlike so much in science, this is pretty intuitive to access, with both a keyword search box and a topic directory right on the front page. For more control there's the Advanced Search screen, which even allows you to limit by content type, such as advanced, intermediate and basic, so you can use it for all ages and levels of understanding.

Once you're in, you'll find results that come from up to date online text books, plus current articles from newspapers, magazines and academic journals. This helps you stay in touch with the latest hot science issues, such as stem cell research or global warming.

It's useful for all sorts of school assignments, as it also includes an extensive biographies section and a quirky timeline dating back to the BCs.

All you need is an enquiring mind and a Frankston Library Service membership.
