Encyclopaedia Britannica Online

It's back to school time, so it seems like an appropriate occasion to introduce Blogalogue readers to one of the Library's great web resources, Encyclopaedia Britannica Online (EBO).

EBO is more than just the print volumes put up on the web. In addition to the basic Encyclopaedia Britannica, you also get the Concise, Junior and Student versions (so you can choose your level of detail and language), plus links to related websites, magazine articles and multimedia, including videos.

You can also use the Workspace feature to create customized pages for research projects. This enables you to store Britannica articles in the Workspace and retrieve or clear them at any time.

In 2006, Nature magazine compared Britannica to Wikipedia on their coverage of science and found that the old stalwart was more accurate than the newcomer. As faults were found in both, though, the usual adage of consulting more than one source still applies.

Why not take the guided tour, or just plunge in and start searching!

Anyone with a Frankston Library Service membership card can access Encyclopaedia Britannica Online over the web, 24/7, even when the library's website is down!
